What is Hypixel SkyBlock? 

On June 11th, 2019, the minigame Hypixel SkyBlock was released on the Hypixel Network. This game has broken multiple records, including one set in April 2021. The Hypixel SkyBlock server frequently saw over 150,000 people online, and on April 16, 2021, during the Dante Dictatorship, the number of players reached over 216,000.

Why Hypixel SkyBlock?

This minigame is centred around a player controlled economy, with over 7 Trillion In game Coins being exchanged every month between the Bazaar and the Auction House And Player to Player Trade. This entire economy is regulated with taxes, just like the real world. In this game players are required to play for multiple hours to have a decent earning which may create a sense of a daily grind just like real life, 

A Virtual Economy That Mirrors Real Life:

Hypixel SkyBlock can be considered as a virtual economy that mirrors the real world, as it has multiple in game aspects that mimic real life. Some of the aspects are listed below. We will be discussing these in-depth in future entries, but for the moment I have given a brief of the topics.

Investing:

The above graph is the price of an in game item which had no supply after the time of its release, This item had a volume that lied somewhere around ~5000. The price of the item started around 57 Million in game coins, which is what I bought it for. I have held on to this item since its release and still possess it.

This item is one of many the players of the game can buy to upgrade their tools, or sometimes to invest. My net profit if I were to sell this item at the moment of writing this post would be 595 Million, Which is a profit of, 1040%.

Inflation:

This game is a prime example of inflation, as this game has an active supply of money through selling items to in game NPCs (Non-Playable-Characters). The NPCs have an infinite supply of money, so when an item is sold to an NPC, it generates currency out of nowhere. This leads to HYPER inflation, although it isn't all that bad, as this teaches people how to price items, and also tells them what to invest in.
